In 2015 JP Duminy was appointed as Captain of the Delhi Daredevils for the Indian Premier League (IPL), Duminy admitted that he was surprised to be named captain and found the experience rewarding. His team consisted of a few South Africans, Quinton De Kock, Imran Tahir and Albie Morkel, as well the World Cup Winning Coach, Gary Kirsten.
The well-known all-rounder became the first South African in the ICC Cricket World Cup to change the game when the Protea’s eased passed Sri Lanka in the quarter final.
Sadly, South Africa was disappointed in the semi-final which co-hosts New Zealand that won them by four wickets with an extra delivery. This doesn’t change the fact that the team put up a good competition. Duminy had an impressive season with both bat and ball, scoring 347 runs, including three fifties, and picking up eight wickets.
JP said, “I looked at it as a great opportunity to see what I’m about as a leader. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the job though the results haven’t gone the way we would have liked. Just being able to connect with my team mates and the management in the best way possible has been great!”
Be sure to enter the competition and stand a chance of winning a signed cricket shirt by the man himself, JP Duminy!
The lucky winner will be announced January 2018!
